Antique Diamond Bowling Alley & Cafe John Frazier Prop Frederick Md Advert 1900s
Antique Diamond Bowling Alley & Cafe John Frazier Prop Frederick Md Advert 1900s
Description
Offered for your consideration is an antique glass wall hanging advertisement for The Diamond Bowling Alleys And Cafe of Frederick, Maryland. Originally located at 58 South Market Street in downtown Frederick, the cafe was up and running, when the two bowling alleys were added to the establishment in 1908. John Frazier was the original proprietor of the business, which operated for many years in town. This oval glass advertisement is reminiscent of a flue cover, although I am unsure if that was the original purpose, or if it was just a wall hanging advertisement. It does bear a date on the graphics of 1909 (see pics 8 & 9), and I am dating it to around that period. In good to very good 'as found' condition, there is some discoloration and fading to the piece due to age, and some loss to the paper backing, but not interfering with the graphics. There may have been a bezel frame to the piece, as some like items had, but I am unsure. It does retain the original chain to the back for hanging to display. There are no breaks or cracks to the glass. It measures 9 3/4" x 4 7/8" and has a weight of about 4 ounces. A very rare discovery for the collector. Auctions can be combined to save on shipping.
